Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American actor, performer, and songwriter for many years. In her early years she was subjected to racial taunts by many people in America. When she was 22, she was able to graduate from the Julliard School of New York. When she was 23, she started her professional career, making her first appearance on Broadway with Paul Simon's The Capeman and in films in You've got Mail. The part in The lad from The Lake was her biggest break, earning her the Tony Award in addition to critical acclaim for her performance. The following year, she was cast in the ABC show Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider recognition for it.
